The answers you will read here are those based on the experience of our yoga teachers and our massage therapists. We have tried to make them clear, concrete and concise.

WHAT IS THE BEST MOMENT OF THE DAY TO PRACTICE YOGA?

When we refer to practices that include body work, such as asanas and dynamic sequences, the best time of day for practice is when you feel energized. 

In general, during the morning we get a more dynamic and vigorous practice as we are coming out from our night rest. After the practice you will feel energized and prepared for the rest of the day. You will have a constant feeling of lightness in the body and peace in the mind. 

If, on the other hand, you decide to practice late during the day, a more gentle yoga class is recommended. Classes with more relaxing asanas, such as our Slow Gentle, which will help you slow down the nerve system and relax the body in a deeper way helping you achieve a better sleep. 

The important thing to remember when you practice yoga is that if you develop a daily or weekly practice you will feel comfortable everyday.

HOW LONG WILL I NOTICE THE BENEFITS IN MY BODY AND MIND?

A yoga practice offers you general benefits instantly. At the end of the practice a feeling of well-being will invade your body and mind. You will feel more harmony, your mind will be clearer, you will think better and you feel great.

I AM LITTLE FLEXIBLE AND NERVOUS, CAN I GET STARTED IN THE PRACTICE OF YOGA?

Of course, we welcome yoga beginners.  The style that we practice is accessible to all kinds of physical conditions. And if you consider yourself a person with high nervous tension, you should even begin to practice and experience the life change proposed by this healthy lifestyle.

If you still feel nervous about being in the same room with other people more flexible and experienced, then let us know. We offer private yoga lessons so that you are familiar with yoga postures and names. Once you feel comfortable enough, you can come to share the practice in the studio. 

We are all beginners on this path and we have a lot to learn so flexibility or temperament is not a limit, on the contrary they are an opportunity for you to transcend your limitations and live a fuller life.

WITH WHAT PART OF THE HANDS IS A MASSAGE GIVEN?

In general with the full hand.  However, depending on the kind of massage and the aim, our therapists can also use the knuckles, elbow, forearm and even the soles of the feet.

DO I NEED ELEMENTS FOR THE PRACTICE OF YOGA? DO I NEED TO BRING A YOGA MATT?

Our yoga studio in front of the beach in Byron Bay has all the necessary for your yoga practice: yoga mat, straps, belts, blankets and props such as blocks and bolsters  (a cylinder of wool-filled fabric).

Our yoga studio has all the essential elements to help you so that you can achieve certain positions more easily, hold for longer and even when you progress to increase the difficulty.

Our experience yoga teachers will help you in the best possible way to receive all the benefits of each posture so that when the yoga lesson in Byron Bay is finished your body feels renewed and restored.

HOW MANY TIMES A WEEK SHOULD I PRACTICE YOGA?

The number of times you think you need but we know that the more you practice the better you will  feel mentallly and physically. 

If you don’t  have enough time, try to  practice at least twice a week so your body starts recognizing the movements and asanas.  This will help you feel more and more familiar with the practice.

WHEN IS IT ADVISABLE TO HAVE A MASSAGE?

Anytime! You don’t have to wait to be in pain or not be able to move to see one of our therapists to receive a massage. More than 80% of the musculoskeletal discomforts that we suffer daily in our day to day are eliminated after some massage sessions. 

Remember you can book a massage without discomfort or pain, for the mere pleasure of relaxing and feeling much better than you are. They help us sleep better, be better and something very important, to prevent future ailments. 

If you have physical pain due to muscular tension, if you feel stiffness on your neck, shoulders or back, having a massage will give you instant relief.

WHAT IS THE MOST APPROPRIATE MASSAGE TO REMOVE STRESS?

Our yoga studio in Byron Bay Main Beach has a space limit and our classes are small. If you can’t book  online, we advise you to arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the class!

I AM A WOMAN SHOULD I DO YOGA PRACTICES IN MY PERIOD?

You can practice, it depends on how you live your first days of the period in terms of aches and pains. In these cases, smoother and beneficial practices can be carried out at this time. 

It is important to mention it to your teacher as there are some yoga postures which are recommended during the menstrual cycle. These postures help on opening the channels assisting in the flow of the fluids and helping reduce pain. On the other hand, there are some other postures that are better to avoid during the menstrual period like inversions. 

You can talk to our yoga teachers to let them know and they will take care of you and your body during the practice. 

IS A MASSAGE A SIMPLE PASSING FAD?

Not at all! The human being has been receiving and giving massages through different cultures for thousands of years. Nowadays, more and more people have massages as something everyday and that is part of their life, as a preventive method of injuries and to those who, thanks to them, have seen their health and quality of life greatly improved.

DO A MASSAGE HELP RECOVER AN INJURY?

WHAT IS DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE?

It is a massage technique that generally uses more pressure to relieve chronic tension in the deeper layers of tissue. Deep tissue massage generally captures specific areas of the body and is often more intense than other techniques. Tell the massage therapist if the pressure becomes too uncomfortable or painful for you.

DOES YOGA HELP DECREASE CHRONIC PAIN?

It is said that yoga practitioners have a higher pain tolerance.

CAN A MASSAGE HELP ME IF I DO SPORTS?

It sure can and in countless ways. A deep tissue massage will help your physical recovery and a better adaptation to exercises and sports practice. No matter what sport you do and at the level you are.

WILL THE MASSAGE BOTHER ME?

A relaxing massage is almost always a pleasant sensation. Massages in very tense areas or chronic pain can initially cause some discomfort, which usually decreases in the first minutes. Always notify your therapist of any discomfort so that you can make the respective adjustments. 

DO I ALWAYS HAVE TO TAKE OFF MY CLOTHES?

Many massage techniques have to be done without some clothes, basically because you have to distribute oil on the body surface and with clothes it is impossible.

CAN I EAT BEFORE PRACTICE YOGA?

Whether it is a session that involves work with physical postures or meditation, it is recommended that you perform the practice an hour and a half or more of the last abundant meal has elapsed.

Due to the different movements and postures that are performed during practice, your body will feel more comfortable during practice. 

If you are hungry eat a light fruit like an apple 30 minutes before or drink a glass or warm milk.

DOES YOGA PRACTICE HAVE CONTRAINDICATIONS?

In principle there is no contraindication to the practice of yoga unless there are clear injuries or impediments to not perform certain practices. You can always get in touch with us or talk to our teachers in our yoga studio. They will adapt the practice to you and your body.

IS A MASSAGE AS EFFECTIVE AND THEY SAY?

The massages are used for many things, depending on the type of massage we receive. In our massage studio in Byron Bay you can find a Deep Tissue Massage, Relaxation Massage and Remedial Massage. You just have to book with one of our experienced massage therapists.

IS IT TRUE THAT I CAN FEEL WEIRD AFTER A MASSAGE?

After a massage session, most clients feel very relaxed. However, there are people after they feel very energized. 

 

WILL A MASSAGE HURT?

Depending on the type of massage. But in general, it should not hurt. 

Relax your body and remember to breathe. Tell the therapist if you feel any discomfort or pain during the massage. And also let him or her know if any particular area bothers you, for example because of tickling or discomfort. You should feel comfortable with the pressure that the therapist exerts on your body, letting you know if you want more or less pressure if necessary. You may feel a little sore for a day or two after the massage. It should be like the pain you feel after having exercised for the first time in a long time.
